Trying to motivate your students to engage with history and enjoy reading? Why not try something new?

New for the 2010-2011 school year, we are now offering the classroom presentation as a stand alone program!

The classroom presentation is a favorite component of A Golden Vision and now it is being offered as it's own program. The presentation is led by a specially trained museum docent who is portraying a teacher from the 1890s. Walking into the room in full costume with period accessories and teaching materials, students immediately realize they are in for something special. The presentation is 45 minutes in length and focuses on comparing/contrasting the past with the present. A portion of the time is spent teaching the students a lesson from the 1890s - you have a choice of reading, math or geography. The rest of the presentation time is spent comparing life in the past with the present through questions and comparison of the artifacts brought in.

For those schools choosing to participate in the classroom presentation only, we also feature a book reading contest. Participating students will need to read and write a report on three books about Los Angeles or California history (1850 to 1950) to earn a free admission coupon for them and their families as well as an additional prize. If they read additonal books, they will continue to accrue prizes.
